Making the sword - finishing a hardened blade

The first step is to scrutinize the blade and evaluate the required work.

To perform additional labor on the blade, it must of course be treated in the glow again to facilitate the making of the wanted adjustments.

Careful corrections must be done to straighten it, to reach the final strength, shape and hardness.

An expert look at the blade by the master who is using the same basic tools as his predecessors, his co-workers, and also ancestors, accomplishing a centuries old tradition of skillful sword making.

Some more delicate corrections, heating and cooling the blade being of course mandatory for truly obtaining the desired effects.

Cleaning the edges to avoid any potential injuries.

The entire process takes of course longer than the few elaborations we've just witnessed. To reach the correct hardness and flexibility requires experience and practice as all is done without any modern tools but only the basic ones seen here. A specialty that makes this smith famous is his ability to realize samurai sword blades of extreme strength, hardness and the right flexibility. Some samurai swords examples are now included in the regular selection found on this website and are made to order, thus custom made. If you need any information or wish to submit us your own design or requests for a samurai blade or complete sword, do not hesitate to contact us.

But right now, it is time to continue to the test phase of the present blade: testing

Even the sharp edge, preparing it for the testing.
