Making the sword - the embossed decorations
The embossed decorations are handmade using the "repoussé" technique
To begin with, the embossing decorations are done on a copper plate that will later become the object that embellishes the scabbard or the the hilt. The entire procedure is done with rudimentary tools, Discover the resulting elements at the bottom of the page. |

To emboss a copper plate, you need a not too soft not too hard surface under it to allow an efficient embossing. Here, a kind of hard rubber like resin concoction is heated and poured into a wooden container. The picture above is an example how it looks like after the crafting has been achieved.

This picture shows the embossed copper still in its holding shock absorbing container. After removing it, the crafted copper will be bent to the chosen shape and the borders will be soldered together. The embossing master having done the same motifs over and over again needed only a rough sketch. |

On this picture we see a few parts of a handle decoration that were soldered together. |
That piece of decoration needs some finishing work to assure the flow of the motif and of course to remove any defects in the design.

On the following pictures we observe how a scabbard decoration is soldered together. |
The soldering is done delicately with silver rods melt in place under a hot flame.

To see how the scabbard will be fit into the decorating embossed copper part, see our page about the assembling of the sword. To put this information on our website, the scabbard decoration part on the mounting page was not plated with any of our offered colors (bronze, nickel or golden), so please understand it was put together for demonstration purposes only. |
After the part has been assembled it will be cleaned, revised and finished, prepared for the next stage.
